How to decrease the length of chat bar similarly to fbook?

Hello,
I've tried this, but there's one problem: The length isn't decreased, only the visible part. So when you want to click on any link that is under the bar, you don't reach it because of the chat bar. Well, it looks so in elgg 1.7.7, maybe a bug? Firebug also shows me the full length, only transparent! Any idea how to fix it? I've got a footer with links and the chat bar is over this, so unclickable...
