Where can I download the desktop application? It was announced once, but I haven't found any information about that...
And why don't desktop notifications work in other browsers except chrome? You didn't mention that :-(

In popout, if enabled, desktop html5 notifications are not displayed.

Embedded chatrooms do not display as expected on mobile devices when Enable Chat Bar on Mobile Devices is disabled.

Firstly, this is what an embedded chatroom looks like on a Nexus 7 tablet when Enable Chat Bar on Mobile Devices is enabled (i.e. the bar is displayed on the screen).

Image

This is what it looks like when Enable Chat Bar on Mobile Devices is disabled:

Image

Image

As you can see:

  • The avatars are far too big
  • The list of online users appears at the top of the embedded chatroom. When there is more chat, they disappear off the top of the chat rather than remaining fixed in place
  • The text box to type in messages is too narrow
  • It's difficult to follow a conversation with the messages, name of user, avatar and time of message are all clumped together as they are
  • There is no space between the time of a message and the message itself

Although 1.7 has fixed the issue which prevented embedded chat rooms being used by mobile users, the current layout of it still makes it unusable. Yes, I would expect very small screens to use the full mobile version but tablet devices such as the Nexus 7 and iPad should be able to use the embedded chatroom just as desktop users can.

And the desktop notifications don't seem to be translatable...

The desktop application will come at a later date. Chrome is the only browser that supports window.webkitNotifications right now.

Embedded chatrooms do not display as expected on mobile devices when Enable Chat Bar on Mobile Devices is disabled.

I'll take a look at this, but the chat bar is largely largely unsupported for mobile devices. We've revamped the mobile version so that webmasters can direct all traffic there.

Update: I think it's just blocking the CSS. I'll have this fixed in the update.

And the desktop notifications don't seem to be translatable...

Good catch, added to our todo list for the bug update.

Maybe you can integrate another library for the notifications instead of using the "native" html5 functions? There are some that are supported even by IE... (e.g. https://github.com/ttsvetko/HTML5-Desktop-Notifications ) In my opinion it would be a better solution as it may be confusing for some users why they see the notifications but on another browser they don't...

Desktop Notifications

Issue 1:

The smilies in the notification popup are not displayed, instead HTML code for the smiley appears in the notification - Example : '<img class="arrowchat_smiley" src="/c/themes/socializze/images/smilies/hooray.jpg" height="16" width="16"alt="7" />'.

Issue 2:

Self chat is displayed for desktop Notification - Example : If am sending a chat to a buddy the self chat is also displayed in desktop notification

Will add to the fix list.

The HTML in notifications is already on it :)

The IE implementation is ridiculous on that and something nobody will use. I'll take a look at Firefox, though.

I'm not sure if this was fixed or not. But in the last version there is a bug whereby occasionally a message you send is displayed under the other person's chat (so it looks like they sent it even though you did).

I haven't really noticed this since updating to 1.7 so it might have been fixed, but it did happen once in a chat session. After refreshing the page it hasn't happened since.

I have a bug to report regarding the mobile chat:

On the mobile chat on my site, if you send a message, then you cannot see your own message appear. To make your own message appear, you have to exit out of that user's window, and then re-enter the chat window.

That doesn't appear to happen here though, so what could be the issue? Maybe it's because I don't have the push subscription?

Still, would like to see this bug identified and fixed. :) A lot of my users are mobile users so it's frustrating for them to type messages and have no indication that it's been sent

I think I see why this may be happening and have fixed it in the bug update.

Great news, thanks. Do you have an ETA for when this will be released? Sorry to ask, it's just that a lot of people are annoyed. I switched over from the other guys with your release of 1.7, so I'm looking to keep people as happy as possible.

Couple more bugs I've noticed, not sure if these have been addressed or not:

If you have multiple windows open, then the desktop notifications appear multiple times, for each window. Eg. if I have the site open in 3 tabs, I get 3 desktop notifications at once.

If you have multiple windows open, and you send a chat message on one, then your own chat message will not appear on the other windows. Chat messages from the other person sync fine, it's just your own messages which won't sync.

Let me check... I had a comma that was still there and nothing after it, when I removed it it fixed it! Thanks Jason for pointing me in the right direction

In reference to my bug, it is still there. I have noticed it several times even since the update. Sometimes, for no real reason, a message I send will look as though the other person said it.

I have seen this happen, rarely. I took a look at the code and I think I've spotted the problem.

Thanks Jason. I've also had reports from some of my members (and I noticed this myself under 1.6) that messages would not be received until they refreshed the page. Is this a known bug?
