Facebook chat integration being discontinued
PostPosted: 21 Oct 2014, 09:03
I'm sad to say that the Facebook chat will no longer work as of April 30, 2015.
Technically, it's already stopped working as of today, but Facebook apps created before April 30, 2014 and had activity will still be able to use it.
Why?
This isn't our choice. Facebook is discontinuing the API that allows developers to use their chat outside Facebook. They have chosen to only allow users to send/receive messages from their products.
Alternatives?
It's possible, although unlikely, that Facebook will announce a replacement service and we'll be able to use it. However, one could assume that they'd want to announce this before discontinuing the service, so I don't see this happening.
The other alternative is that we are able to get an online friend's list, show their profile picture, and bring up a history of the messages. However, sending and receiving messages in real-time is not in any way possible.
We're just as upset about the news as you. Although this feature will soon be going away, we'll continue to look for ways to improve ArrowChat.
