Passing notification count across as a querystring?

Is this possible like in the mod you did for cometchat?
I get my data from the vB datastore, so there is no need for AC to do an extra database call. I also would like the notification button to load a page directly instead of opening up a popup, is this easily possible?

In order to get notifications, you will have to insert a mySQL statement in the place where the action occurs. We'll be providing this code and instructions for the supported integrations. We played around with other ways to get site notifications, but this was ultimately the best and only way to accomplish it, so getting notifications from a cache will not be possible.
Version 0.1 will not have the capability to make notification links, but this is something we'll definitely be adding ASAP.

Fiddlesticks, I guess I'll have to see if there's a way around that, as an extra DB call is very counter productive (in my situation).
