Sure it'll mean the tables will need to be UTF8MB4_GENERAL_CI but I think it'll introduce compatibility with Mobile users, and for desktop users, I believe Emoji Packs can be used. This will hopefully bridge support for Mobile/Desktop users.

Edit: Of course this would have to be optional considering the fact that <MySQL 5.5 doesn't (AFAIK) support this.

I think this should be an OPTION. Not a replacement.
