Display all friends in mobile version

I want to create a chat application like whatsapp, but I need help.
1. Is there any way to display all friends, so not only the ones that are online; and start a chat with them?
2. How can I add group chat functions to mobile chat?
3. (this is a general question): Where can I change the date format? It always shows up like
17:40 21st Dec
