From a security point of view - is it wise / possible to rename the folder arrowchat to something less obvious e.g. comms or anything!

Has anyone tried this?

What are the correct steps?

Thanks

I don't think it's necessary to rename from a security point of view.

I've renamed the folder on my site, mainly because when anyone inspects the website pages or uses the mobile chat they don't see Arrowchat mentions (as I've paid for branding free).

If I recall, I just:

  • Renamed the Arrowchat folder
  • Changed the paths in the Arrowchat header and footer code, replacing /arrowchat/ with /newfoldername/
  • Changing the Base URL in Configuration in the Arrowchat admin panel from /arrowchat/ to /newfoldername/

That was how I was going to proceed - so, thank you for affirming that.

From a security point of view probably not essential, but obscuring easy access makes sense.

Anyone can see the path by looking at the source so it really does nothing.

Hello

I have attempted to make the changes but Arrowchat does not load correctly.

There does not appear to be anywhere to specify the root folder name in Config (as per your point 3 above)

Changing the Base URL in Configuration in the Arrowchat admin panel from /arrowchat/ to /newfoldername/ >>>>>> Do you mean includes/config.php ?? There is nowhere in mine (1.81) to add this info.

@JASON: I understand this, but it is simply a method to obscure anyone nosy enough to be poking around!! I realise that security through obscurity is not enough on its own, but surely it can't harm ??

Thanks

Yes there is, it's in System > Configuration.
