The problem with a 'bad word filter' is that it is so easy to get around by replacing letters with numbers in some words (sh1t or 5h1t), transposing letters (fcuk) and all sorts of variations beyond this. It's almost impossible to have a comprehensive list that would filter out every bad word and people would still find ways to circumvent it. Even if it did work, you'd then have problems with people's names like 'Dick' and words like 'peacock'

Really for live shows/programs where swearing is an issue, the only real solution is something like a blog where you can approve comments before publication.

I think Martok brings up a lot of good points and this is why we chose not to include the filter to begin with.

That being said, this is something we're considering adding simply because it wouldn't be very time consuming.

If you do consider adding a word filter then it would have to be easily editable by admins i.e. via the admin control panel so that additional words can be added to the list.

Do remember though that bad word filter lists would need to be added for various languages, plus there may need to be some 'cross pollination' of swear words across language files as many know the various language variations for 'sh*t' for example. Also, what is considered swearing in English is one part of the world isn't in other parts e.g. 'fanny' may be slang for bottom in the US but it refers to a completely different part of the body here in the UK!
