Push notifications through Pushover or Boxcar

I'm wondering if it is possible to add Pushover or Boxcar notifications to allow messages to be sent when users receive them. This is a feature I've seen in competing programs and it helps to know when you are being messaged.

This would be a great feature I think.
Maybe even a customizable chat app ?
