Add a dependable way to access emojis from desktop instances of ArrowChat. Since v3.0.4, the emoji button has seemingly been nonexistent on the following desktop browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge. I only see an emoji button on the mobile version now.

It’s a bug in 3.0.4. It will be fixed soon.

Thank you. I wasn't sure because there were two reports relating to the issue on the bug tracker page, but they vanished.

Just to report back on this, I've upgraded to v3.0.5. As far as the desktop instance emoji button, it's now present on Firefox and Internet Explorer 11. Unfortunately, it is apparently not available on Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Will you please confirm that it is incompatible with those browsers?

It's compatible with all modern web browsers.

That's strange because the emoji button is NOT present on the newest releases of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge for me. Any thoughts on why this is the case?

Did you refresh the browser cache? Not sure if that's not it.

Yes, with Ctrl-F5. In fact, forcing a cache refresh is the first thing I always do. But the emoji button is just not there on those browsers. I've also just checked the Vivaldi browser and the button doesn't display on it either. Of the browsers I've checked, the only ones that currently display the button with ArrowChat v3.0.5 are Firefox and IE 11.

Browsers that do not display the button
Chrome: 83.0.4103.116 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Edge: 83.0.478.56 (Official build) (64-bit)
Vivaldi: 3.0.1874.38 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

It's working on our site which tells me it's something specific to your site. Possibly extensions, two copies of jQuery, two copies of modernizr, or something like that.

That seems strange since it hasn't manifested with any other features. And if I remember correctly, a couple of updates back some others here were also noticing the missing button on various browsers. But I'll check the console and the file structure. Thanks

Jason, as an addendum to my last... I should have checked this long ago, but I didn't until just now. The emoji button is NOT showing here on your site either from Google Chrome, Edge, or Vivaldi. It thus can't be a local problem on my server. In fact, I just messaged you from a test instance running on MS Edge about this while staring at the area where the missing button should be. There's thus obviously more to this issue.

Here's a screenshot of the nonexistent button on MS Edge:

So...it's a local issue. What operating system you are on? We have a bunch of test computers and operating systems in the office...all worked.

Windows 7 doesn't support emojis. It has some very, very limited support that came later in an update. I'm unaware if modernizr detects that update as support.

Understood. At least that seems to solve the mystery. But I find it interesting that Firefox and IE 11 both render the button as well as the selectable emojis popup and actually allow selection of emojis on Windows 7. So it sounds like Windows 8 - 10 should be fine, right?

I believe FireFox ships with its own emoji font.

Yes, Windows 8+ will work.

Ok, I found and tested a fix for Windows 7. In case it may be useful for others, one simply need install the Segoe UI Emoji font on their Windows 7 OS. For reference, the following link explains this:

https://appuals.com/how-to-get-windows- ... ndows-7-8/

Be warned that the links appearing on that page for the Seguiemj.tff file direct to a page that no longer contains the font. However it can be obtained elsewhere. I have personally downloaded and installed it. Now all 3 of the browsers (Google Chrome, MS Edge, Vivaldi), which would not display the emoji button on my Windows 7 laptop previously, in fact display the button as well as render the emoji selection popup box whenever the button is pressed.

Enjoy
