Making a compact group-chat with CSS

I need to make a group-chat using ArrowChat, but I need it formatted a particular way. Specifically, I need it very compact. Our existing chat software does that but is clunky and restricted in other ways. Basically, I need ArrowChat to look something like this :

The main issue is having each message occupy as little vertical space as possible. The room is busy and I need messages to stay in-view for as long as possible.

Any advice on where to start? Is there an existing Theme which might help?
